How does one who needs to focus and do creative work, how are they able to work? Well this might be a wee bit of a hot take here, but my answer…you don’t.
Now this as pretty much anything in life has a ton of nuance associated to it. If you are creating to stay alive or you have a mighty fine paid job, you will find a way through anything. But I think for the most part, if you were an artist stuck at home during a lockdown at anytime during the last year and so, chances are your drive and focus to work weren’t really all there. Now this is not me saying to congratulate yourself on getting nothing done, more so give yourself the space to breathe. The pandemic itself is something none of us could have imagined in a million different scenarios, we probably accept an alien invasion before this. The point being though, we had really no clue what the world would look like in a year or two, or even five. And at some point you begin to spiral down and you fall down the rabbit hole of dread, which is not good.
So I personally would say to focus on the little victories of each day, the beautiful things that remain. Reach out to a distant friend or family member, watch a classic film from your childhood or listen to your favourite album from high school. Take your mind away from the things you can’t control and allow yourself the space to remember the simple joys in life. We all need it.
But what do you think? I could totally be wrong, I am not ruling that out as a possibility.
